Team KSA Sets record in Africa Championships
TEAM KSA Zone 6 Africa Champs 2013 " led by head of delegation Kyoshi Sonny Pillay
National Karate Team SA was in rampant form at the Zone 6 Africa Championship capturing a record 100 medals in the various categories. The SA Team were on top of the medal count with 37 KSA fighters being crowned Zone 6 Africa Champions having won the major share the gold medals on offer.
“This is an amazing achievement crowned by outstanding performances of our athletes against some of the top Karate nations in Africa. Namely, Botswana, Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe and the host; Namibia” said the Head of KSA Delegation Kyoshi Sonny Pillay.
General Manager of the Team, Carlos Vilela expressed his delight and said “this remarkable feat of Team KSA Augurs well for their chances at the forthcoming UFAK (All Africa) Championship in Tunisia at the end of August 2013.”. Head Coach on the Namibia tour, Ian le Roux said “the team’s stunning performance at Zone 6 was the highlight of his coaching career for the last 10 years.”
Currently KSA Team management, Rudi Bruwer,Dr John Naido, Carlos Vilela and Peter Brandon is in Greece with the Cadet and Junior Team attending the World Youth Cup under the auspices of WKF (World Federation). Two of its official coaches on the tour, Brando Pillay and Eugene Oosthuizen are participating in the Coaching Seminar at the youth Cup, attempting to be accredited as International Coaches. Chairman of KSA Coaching Commission, Peter Brandon was optimistic that two of his protégés would come through with flying colours with regards to the accreditation applied for the International Coach.
Dr John Naidoo head of the medical commission of KSA currently in Greece for the World Youth Cup ensured that members of Team KSA were treated for injuries timeously whenever they were injured and said that the African fighters in Zone 6 provided very tough competition “our fighters were in extremely good company and therefore have every right to feel proud of their superb performance in Namibia” added the neurosurgeon from Kzn
