SA karate legend Sonny Pillay Hanshi founder of the SKISA organisation established in 1978 during the height of apartheid has been bestowed with an 8th Dan black belt by the world SKIF Shotokan org. at last week ends Shotokan world championships (SKIF) in Jakarta
The Karate maestro Pillay who is the current President of KSA (national fed. for karate in SA)was conferred the prestigious accolade of the 8th Dan Rank by World grandmaster Hirokazu Kanazawa(10th Dan) who is the highest respected karate authority in the world today
Remarkably Hanshi Sonny Pillay who regularly conducts workshops around the globe is the first and only karate master of Indian origin in the World to be graded to the rank of 8th dan by Grandmaster Kanazawa “Soke”
In addition Hanshi Pillay remains the first and only 8th dan SKIF black belt to be graded by Japanese Grandmaster Kanazawa in the African continent
