The SKISA International Kanazawa Cup 2013
The SKISA International Kanazawa Cup 2013 and Masters Camp was held recently at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Fred Crookes Sports Centre
It was deemed the Battle of the “Best of the Best”, which provided plenty of thrills and superb fighting techniques ensuring that throughout the day the large group of spectators never left their seats. The event attracted approximately 500 karate-ka and International guests from Mauritius, India and Bangladesh who were also looking to capture the Kanazawa cup titles in the various divisions. Some of the division that ran on the day were individual kata, kumite as well as team kata and kumite. The atmosphere was electric for most of the day, and the parents were on their feet cheering their children on.
The highlight of the tournament had to be the demonstration by visiting karate maestro Shihan Manabu Murakami who holds a 7th - Dan SKIF) and is the Chief Instructor for SKIF worldwide. Shihan Murakami displayed immense concentration and skill during his advanced kata demonstration much to the delight of the crowd.
Senior fighters and seasoned tournament campaigners Njabulo Khumalo,Theo Pillay ,Nico Naidoo, Ladies team captain Tina Lee Singh ,Walter Sisulu university student Sinawo Dalise and Damien Nair provided the excitement in the senior mens and womens open black belt divisions with Khumalo emerging the top Fighter of the day .Tina lee Singh and Protea Riasha Singh dominated the ladies section of the tournament winning GOLD against some very stiff opposition from the WSKF opponents of Gauteng.
A successful Masters Camp held over 3 days Thurs , Fri and Sun was conducted by SKIF world fed chief instructor Master Murakami assisted by Protea coach Sensei Brando (technical director of SKISA ) with special guest instructor Sensei Mike Dukas head of WSKF SA
The Kanazawa Cup 2013 once again proved that it’s one of South Africa’s premier karate tournaments and this augurs well for the future said tournament director Kyoshi Sonny Pillay president of SKISA
