The Kanazawa cup hosted by SKISA karate organisation for the past 15years attracted a record entry with karate fighters from all over the republic converging on Durban’s shores
SKISA as usual dominated all the team events culmination of which was the thrilling team final in the senior category between Team SKISA and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
The said match that had the spectators on the edge of their seats was won 3-2 by captain Njabulo Khumalo and his SKISA team under the guidance of Protea coach Sensei Brando Pillay
Tournament Director Hanshi Sonny Pillay during an interview said that the event showcased some of South Africa’s top tournament fighters in the battle of the “best of the best “at the said event
“This Kanazawa cup 2015 event is a forerunner to the SKIF Kanazawa world championships that is scheduled for Aug 2016 in Indonesia therefore the high standard of performance by our SKISA top fighters will impact positively on our team’s chances of being amongst the medals” concluded Hanshi Pillay headmaster of SKISA
CEO of Karate South Africa Carlos Vilela paid glowing tribute to the SKISA organisation “ SKISA is a major player in the National federation of karate in our country regularly producing Proteas and national champions “ said Mr Vilela
The SKISA organisation also wishes to recognise the numerous technical advanced workshops attended by over a thousand karateka conducted by Japanese Master Murakami during his 10 day stay in the Republic of South Africa
The highlight of the masters visit must certainly be the free development workshop for over a hundred children who hail from disadvantaged communities residing in informal settlements
The said children who attend the Columbia primary school in Greenwood park KZN were handed T-shirts and fed sumptuous meals at the conclusion of the free work shop
